Shantiniketan
Rabindranath Tagore was, in a nutshell, a greatly creative and visionary mind. He was strongly against the concept of formal education, which he saw to be too far away from the inspiring wonders of mother nature. Following his vision, he established an open-air school for children in 1901 in Shantiniketan, which had gotten enlarged to a university throughout the following years and received the status of a central public university in 1951. It has turned the small town into an important center of art, literature, culture, with the importance of education reaching into every corner. When strolling through the spacious and peaceful university area, watching the students creating pieces of arts and learning on benches under old trees, I felt the place whispering to me: It’s important to always be curious and to always consider nature in all our enquires.
