Munroe Island
Munroe Island is a small island group located in Kerala, South India. The area is known for its unique landscape, dominated by interconnected water canals and rivers which are being inhabited by a rich aquatic life. With only a few inhabitants there were hardly any lights at night and the echo of the frog’s quark orchestra, always starting after dawn, would fill the darkest darkness. Throughout the day the villagers would do construction work on their small houses, take care of their cattle and harvest the vegetables of their garden. When we asked our homestay father if we should be concerned about mosquitos, he replied: “You no worry. On this island, only five to six mosquitos live." We left the island with a mind at peace and a permanent souvenir: Plenty of mosquito bite scars. Munroe Island, Kerala, 2020
